"Be the change you wish to see in the world".....this consequential quote from Gandhi is how I strive to live my life everyday. When events such as the Haitian earthquake occur in the world, I am further reminded of how truly blessed I am. Really...how truly blessed a lot of us are. I live in an earthquake prone area...if one the magnitude of Haiti's hit, I am assured that we would have the resources (financial, medical, etc) to quickly begin the rebuilding process. I am assured that medical help would be available, appropriate food, water and shelter would quickly be at my disposal. I would venture to say that most of us would be okay with whatever regional 'weather disaster' hit. The resources would most likely be there for you.

It's pure luck that I was born into this secure environment. Pure, dumb, luck. Another favorite quote from a great group of guys "...where you live should not decide whether you live or whether you die." U2

When the quake hit, I committed to myself to do something in addition to sending money. In my mind 6-12 months post-quake was the timeframe I was aiming for, when the world's attention would likely be waning, but the need for help would still be so immense. The opportunity with Soles4Souls presented itself and I immediately jumped on it. To be able to go to Haiti with an organization as wonderful as Soles4Souls is beyond what I imagined.

Together with my good friend and colleague, Nancy, we will be traveling down to Haiti in August. We will be delivering shoes and providing assistance wherever the need is at the time we are there. We aim to represent our friends and families in a humble, yet big way...we have set a combined goal to raise $7,000 for Soles4Souls, prior to our departure. Each donation is fully tax deductible and will go a long way to help Soles4Souls continue their work in Haiti. If you choose to make a donation, I send you my grandest and most heartfelt gratitude. Know that you are "...being the change" and I sincerely thank you for that. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you when we return.
